Despite facing early setbacks, such as rejection from the Madras Film Institute, his determination led him to a successful career in filmmaking.

Murugadoss married Ramya in 2005, and the couple has two children. His younger brother, Dileepan, is an actor who debuted in Murugadoss' production Vathikuchi (2013). Dileepan has since appeared in films like Kaala (2018) and Kuthoosi (2019).
