Storyline
In the shadow of the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the respected lawyer C. Sankaran Nair sets out to hold the British Raj accountable for the killings. Convinced that the official account conceals the truth, he wages a lonely legal campaign against a General and an empire determined to bury it. Facing institutional pressure, professional risk and personal danger, Nair builds his case in the courtroom, turning a trial into a reckoning with colonial power and the silence surrounding one of history’s darkest days.
Production
Kesari Chapter 2 was directed by Karan Singh Tyagi, who co-wrote it with Amritpal Singh Bindra, and produced under the Dharma Productions, Leo Media Collective and Cape of Good Films banners. The film was photographed by Debojeet Ray and edited by Nitin Baid, with a runtime of about 135 minutes. Its release was timed to coincide with the 106th anniversary of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Music
The music and background score were composed by Shashwat Sachdev, lending a solemn, period-appropriate weight to the film’s courtroom drama and its historical backdrop.
Reception
Kesari Chapter 2 released on 18 April 2025 and grossed around ₹142 crore. Reviews were mixed: critics praised the lead performances and the courtroom drama, while some questioned the film’s historical liberties and felt commercial flourishes occasionally overshadowed its subject.
