Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man

Set in November 1940, Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man picks up the Shelby saga during the Birmingham Blitz, as German bombs fall on the city that made the family. With the war turning Britain’s industrial heartland into a target, a covert Nazi scheme to flood the country with forged banknotes threatens to collapse its economy from within. Thomas Shelby — older, harder and haunted — is pulled back into the fray, forced to weigh loyalty, family and country against the ghosts that have followed him since the trenches.

What begins as a matter of money becomes a fight for survival, as the Shelbys navigate wartime Birmingham, shifting allegiances and an enemy hiding in plain sight. The film frames Tommy’s story as a reckoning: a chance to finish what the series began, and to test whether a man defined by violence can outrun his own legend.

Cillian Murphy returns as Thomas “Tommy” Shelby, the role that defined the series, anchoring the film’s wartime drama. He is joined by Sophie Rundle as Ada Shelby and a mix of returning and new faces, including Stephen Graham, Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Roth, Barry Keoghan and Sammy Jonas Heaney. The ensemble blends familiar members of the Shelby world with fresh adversaries introduced for the wartime setting.

The film was directed by Tom Harper, who helmed early episodes of the original series, and written by Steven Knight, the show’s creator. It was produced by Guy Heeley, Cillian Murphy, Steven Knight and Patrick Holland, with BBC Film among the backers. It was photographed by cinematographer George Steel and edited by Mark Eckersley, with music by Antony Genn and Martin Slattery. Production kept the story rooted in Birmingham, the city at the heart of the Peaky Blinders world, extending the show’s distinctive period look to a feature-length canvas.

The Immortal Man is a direct continuation of the six-season television series that ran from 2013 to 2022. Where the show followed the Shelby family’s rise from post-First World War Birmingham through the 1920s and 1930s, the film advances the timeline into the Second World War, carrying Thomas Shelby’s arc forward. Creator Steven Knight had long signalled that a film would close out the saga, and the project reunites key creative talent to give the story a big-screen send-off.

Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man premiered in Birmingham, the series’ spiritual home, ahead of a limited cinema run, before releasing globally on Netflix on 20 March 2026. Streaming on Netflix is the primary way audiences worldwide can watch the film.

The film drew strong viewership on release, and reviews were mixed to positive. Critics reserved particular praise for Cillian Murphy’s return as Thomas Shelby and for the wartime atmosphere as a continuation of the series, and longtime followers of Peaky Blinders welcomed the feature as a fitting extension of the Shelby story into the Second World War.
