Narivetta

Varghese Peter, a young man from Alappuzha, drifts into the police force for want of a better job and is taken under the wing of the seasoned head constable Basheer Ahammed. When a tribal movement in Wayanad rises up to demand land rights, their unit is deployed to contain the protest. What begins as crowd control curdles into a state-engineered conspiracy: Basheer is killed and his death recast to justify a brutal crackdown on the protesters. Torn between duty and conscience, Varghese must decide whether to become complicit or expose the truth.

Narivetta was directed by Anuraj Manohar from a screenplay by Abin Joseph, and produced by Tippushan and Shiyas Hassan under the Indian Cinema Company banner. The story is rooted in the real 2003 Muthanga incident. The film was photographed by Vijay and edited by Shameer Muhammed, with a runtime of about 138 minutes.

The music and background score were composed by Jakes Bejoy, whose work heightens the film’s tension and lends weight to its politically charged forest-set climax.

Narivetta released on 23 May 2025 and grossed around ₹31.43 crore. Critics praised it as a bold, socially conscious drama with strong technical craft and a committed lead turn from Tovino Thomas, though some felt its script was less sharp than comparable Malayalam police dramas.
